A negative human impact on lakes is pollution. Pollution in lakes can include too many pesticides and fertilizers that runoff into lakes. This can cause an increase in algae growth. The problem with this is the algae can block the sunlight so other plants cannot grow. Also, a positive human impact on is, using a pumping station that will allow water level control of the marsh. This will increase vegetation and reduce carp populations.This was done in the Ventura Marsh.
Some lakes are having a problem with invasive plants. The plants could end up killing all of the native plants in the lakes. The solution to this is to try to keep track of nonnative plants that could invade the water, and keep them from entering the water, or stop them before they have done too much damage. If the plants have already taken over the lake, divers will have to dive into the lake with a cutting tools, rakes, or other tools and kill or control the plants.
A current problem in lakes is "algal bloom". This overpopulated speices, covers the upper layer of water in lakes. This limits the sunlight that reaches lower waters.and reduces dissolved oxygen. Plants cannot live without sunlight, and as a consequence they will die. We can help by clearing the upper layer of lakes.
